Backtrack to last summer, I was several months into my dream job, a communications internship for a non-profit in Toronto. I fell in love with the organization by my first day, and since then, everything about the work had just become more enjoyable.

The latest development? I had just received a tentative promotion from a senior manager, putting me in charge of the national rebrand project our organization was undertaking. I was in awe of the opportunity and frankly, couldn’t believe it. Unable to keep it a secret, I immediately told my partner, friends, and family about this fantastic opportunity that had been set out in front of me.

I should mention, before landing this communications internship, I had gone through an anxiety-inducing job hunt. I knew I would never have to go back to looking for entry-level positions that required two years of experience, which brought me a lot of joy. I had finally found my real-life career with a great organization in my ideal city. It felt as though the pieces were all coming together.

Every single day I came into work, beaming, excited about the journey ahead.
