“Nothing but water” Emmett muttered as he took a swig from his canteen, stretching over the wheel of his ship.

He had made this trip over a dozen times, and every voyage, the vast expanse of the ocean never failed to give him the feeling of insignificance. Part of him always wanted to sail in a random direction and conquer this belittling feeling, but the older he got, the more confident he was about dying to some underwater monstrosity on such a voyage.

For now, he stuck to familiar merchant routes.

Despite his familiarity with the route, this trip had still felt particularly long. Apart from his son Randal and his Drawven crew hand, Flint, the boat held five guests passengers on board. Bound to the island Chultt, Emmett was to meet and sell handcrafted ballistic crossbows to one of the merchant princes while his unfamiliar passengers had paid their way to the island for separate business.

He was never told the purpose of their trip. Probably to embark on some fanciful adventure or something along those lines. The story never concerned him, only the gold that came with smuggling them.
